William Maddison Fenton
born 17 April 1867
  in Pittington, Co. Durham
died very roughly 1937

The birth of a William Maddison Fenton is recorded in Durham district in the June quarter of 1867 (10a368). Maureen Robson supplies the precise date.

1871 census: Living at Short Row, Colliery Row, Houghton-le-Spring with parents and siblings. Age is 3, and place of birth is Pittington.

1881 census: Living on Front Street, Leadgate with parents and siblings. Age is 14, place of birth is Pittington, and occupation is coal miner. Surname wrongly taken down as Felton.

1888: Aged 22 and described as a bachelor at the time of his marriage. He signs his name 'W. Fenton'. Residence is said to be 'Lizzie', which I assume must be Lizzie Square, one of the main residential areas of the mining village of Annfield Plain, just to the north of Lanchester.

1891: a coal miner at time of daughter Sarah's birth.

1901 census: Living 11 Spencer's Bank, Whickham with parents, siblings, daughter, and boarders. Age is 34, place of birth is Pittington, and occupation is 'Coal Miner Hewer'.

1922: a coal miner at time of daughter Sarah's second marriage.
