Donald: 'a somewhat passive man, was a gardener to a big house in Farnham when I was very young. I caught up with him in 1944 when he was gardener at the big house in Ringmer, on the Eastbourne Rd just outside Lewes—this house had recently been vacated by US troops. The owner of the house lived in a large rambling Tudor building, with a superb water garden, in Woking. Uncle traveled to Woking several days of the week to keep an eye on this garden. He moved to Woking permanently in the late '40's.'
