1860: described as 'a Wire Weaver' on his daughter Elizabeth's marriage certificate (on which he might also be the Thomas Spriggs who bears witness).
1861 census: living with wife, children, and grandson on Moland Street, Birmingham. His age is 39, occupation is watch maker, and place of birth is Birmingham.
1871 census: living with wife, children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren on [...] Yard, off Great Hampton Row, Birmingham. His age is 50, occupation is Wire[?] Weaver[?], and place of birth is Birmingham.
1881 census: living with wife and sons on 11 Bk 34 Hurst St (St Martin's parish), Birmingham. His age is 60, occupation is unemployed wire weaver, and place of birth is Birmingham.
1891 census: a widower, living with daughter and granddaughters at 133 Walsall Street, Birmingham. Her age is 69, occupation is wire weaver, and place of birth is 'Liddington' in Rutland (presumably Lyddington).
