1838: I have a copy of her birth certificate. She was born at 14 Court [?] House, Hill Street. The birth was registered on 9 February by her mother.

The LDS have a record of the baptism of a Sarah Mayo (parents Joseph and Ann) in St Philip's,​ Birmingham on 16 April 1838. Her birthdate is also given, though whether that comes from the original record is unclear.

1841 census: living on Wharf Street, Birmingham, with (presumably) mother and siblings. Her age is given as 3, and she is marked as having been born in Warwickshire.

1861: a spinster 'of full age', living in Edgbaston at the time of her marriage.

1871 census: living with daughter and a lodger at 178 Great Russell Street. Age is 33, occupation is charwoman, and place of birth is Birmingham. Husband not present, but she is not described as a widow.
