Margaret Cozens: '[At] a place called the Shamrock Yard, Birtley, Hannah, now Chapman, gives birth to a daughter and she is named Sarah—born 5th February 1888, baptised 29th February 1888. 8th April 1888, Sarah Chapman dies, age 2 months, at The Barracks, Edmondsley; cause of death was marasmus. She is buried 10th April 1888 at St Peters, Sacriston.

Audrey Thorogood says that the Shamrock Yard at Birtley was also known as 'The Barracks' (rather confusingly!). It had been a barracks, but when the army moved out squatters moved in.
