1851 census: living at Grange Row, Carrville, with wife, children and step-children. Occupation is given as coal miner. Age is 43 and place of birth is Philadelphia.

1859: Present at son George's first marriage, where his occupation is given as husbandsman.

1861 census: living at Grange Row, Belmont [Belmont and Carrville are adjacent], with wife, son and step-daughter. Occupation is given as coal miner. Age is 54 and place of birth is 'Pensher'.

1869: Profession given as bailiff on son George's second marriage certificate. NB that 'bailiff' was a term for a foreman or overman in mining. See also this 1888 Times article.

1871 census: living at Pump Row [I failed to note where], with wife, and son. Occupation is given as coal miner. Age is 63 and place of birth is Philadelphia.
