John Hart
born June 1783–June 1785
in Blaisdon, Gloucestershire
died 22 November–6 December 1851
in Gloucester, Gloucestershire
Sue Dobson gives the following account of John Hart:
John (Jnr) married Hannah Sterry in Longhope and they had at least 8 children. After 4 daughters, the first son born to them (in 1827) was named John. He appears to have had 2 baptisms, one as John Elisha Hart in May 1827 at Longhope and a few weeks later in June as John Sterry Hart in Tainton. In both records the family’s residence is given as Tainton. In the 1841 Census, John is not with Hannah and their children and it would appear that he is in the Littledean prison; his age is given as 57 years. In 1851, Hannah is listed as married – but there is a John in the Westbury Union Workhouse, birthplace is recorded as Blaisdon, he is 66 years old and is a wood cutter. Later that year, he dies and is buried at Blaisdon with his residence given as Westbury.
1851: the death of a John Hart is recorded in Gloucester district in the December quarter of 1851 (v.11, p. 270). There is a also a burial record (6 December 1851) in the parish of Blaisdon for a John Hart, aged 62, abode: Gloucester.
1858: Described as a labourer on his son Solomon's marriage certificate (where he is not said to be deceased, though neither is Solomon's father-in-law who apparently had died by that time).
