The LDS have a record of the baptism (including birth date) of an Edward Townsend to Richard and Jane Townsend on 29 February 1836 in St Martin's, Birmingham.

1841 census: living on Fisher Street, Birmingham with his parents and siblings. His age is given as 5, and he was born in Warwickshire.

1851 census: living on Lancaster Street, Birmingham with parents and siblings. His age is given as 15, occupation is 'Brassfounder', and place of birth is Birmingham.

1860: at the time of his marriage, a 24 year old bachelor, living on Fisher Street, and working as an ostler.

1884: Name on son Richard's marriage certificate is given as Edwin. Richard apparently doesn't know his father's profession, though!
