1891 census: living at Prospect Cottage, North Street, Abergavenny, with parents and siblings. Age is 15 and place of birth is Abergavenny. Occupation is office boy.

1901 census: Alex Baron, 25, is living with his parents, Thomas and Grace, and his occupation is railwayman.

1911 census: (as 'Alex.') living at 99 North Street, Abergavenny (a house of six rooms) with his brother, nephews, and a housekeeper. He is single, aged 37, born in Abergavenny, and working as a locomotive engine fitter (for the London and North Western Railway).

1948: the death of an Alexander Baron aged 73 is recorded in Abergavenny district in the September quarter of 1948 (8c38).

Joseph Baron remembers an 'Alec' Baron who might be the same. This 'Alec' was an engine driver. He says he was involved in accident when his engine ran over someone—it turned Alec's mind. After that, if ever a vehicle came past when he was in the road, he would turn and face the hedge.
