Solomon Hart

1829: baptised on the 8 September in Tainton. He is Solomon, the son of John (a labourer) and Hannah. Their abode is Tainton [sic].

1841 census: living at ?Tanhouse, Blaisdon, with John Dowding, a farmer, and various others (who don't appear to be relatives). Age is 13, born in county. Occupation is agricultural labourer.

1851 census: living with Thomas Cole (42), a carpenter, and his family. Age is 21, and place of birth is Blaisdon. His profession is Wood Cutter.

1858: at time of marriage he is described as 'of full age' and living at 34 Littleworth [no word 'street' or 'road']. Occupation is labourer.

1861 census: living in Blaisdon with wife and lodger. Age is 30, and place of birth is Blaisdon. Occupation is labourer.

1870: described as 'General Labourer' on son Thomas's birth certificate.

1871 census: living in Blaisdon with wife, sons, and lodger (Charles Reynolds, 32, woodcutter). Age is 42, and place of birth is Taynton.

1881 census: living in Blaisdon with wife, sons, and lodger (William Ferris, 19, groom). Age is 50, place of birth is Blaisdon, and profession is Agricultural Labourer.

1891 census: living at Wall Cottages, Blaisdon, with wife, sons, and lodger (Patience Parry, 76, widow). Age is 62, place of birth is Taynton, and profession is Agricultural Labourer.

1896: alive at time of son Thomas's marriage (1896), where his profession is 'Labourer'.

1901 census: (as Soloman) living in Blaisdon, with wife and son. Age is 73, place of birth is Taynton, and profession is General Farm Labourer.

1905: the death of a Solomon Hart aged 77 is recorded in the Westbury-on-Severn district in the March quarter of 1905 (6a1_2). In the 1911 census his wife is described as a widow.

Les says that Solomon was a woodcutter and the local constable. Les cannot remember him, but can remember the death of his widow in the late 1920s. He guessed that he would have been born around 1850.

Leslie Hart thought that this branch of the Hart family originated in Blaisdon.

There is a Solomon's Tump, north east of Blaisdon [SO7319].
