The LDS have a record of the baptism of a Henry Mayo (parents Joseph and Ann) in St Philip's,​ Birmingham on 30 May 1828. His birthdate is also given, though whether that comes from the original record is unclear.

1841 census: living on Wharf Street, Birmingham, with (presumably) mother and siblings. His age is given as 13, and he is marked as having been born in Warwickshire.
