I have a copy of his birth certificate.

1851 census: living at Waldridge Fell, with parents and siblings (and a servant!). Age is 1 month and place of birth is 'Durham' [meaning the county, I think].

1871 census: living at 18 Blue Row, Waldridge, with parents and brother. Age is 21? [difficult to read], place of birth is Waldridge, and occupation is 'Fireman[?] at Colliery'.

1876: On his marriage certificate he is 25, a Colliery Brakesman[?], living in Waldridge Fell.

1881 census: living with wife and children at 11 East Row, Waldridge. Age is 30, profession is Colliery Engineman, and place of birth is Waldridge.

1885: On daughter Elizabeth Jane's birth certificate, his occupation is 'Colliery Engineman'.

1891 census: living with wife and children at 5 North Row, Waldridge. Name is given as 'Adam Holmes (Junr)', age is 40, profession is Colliery Brakesman, and place of birth is Waldridge.

1901 census has an Adam Holmes (born Chester-le-Street) at 51 Hylton St, Waldridge (nr Chester-le-Street), living with daughter Elizabeth J., wife also Elizabeth J., and various children. He is listed as an employed winding-engineman. See Holmes_Elizabeth.tif

1911 census: living with wife and daughters at 5 Hylton St, Waldridge (a house of four rooms). He is aged 60, his place of birth is Waldridge, and his occupation is 'Stationary Engineman (above ground)'.
